THE DETROITIST GROUP About Us

For years, we have been revitalizing urban Detroit neighborhoods. We turn neglected homes and structures into new gathering places that are sources of vitality where life bustles within and spreads throughout.

We find a sense of fulfillment from the benefit we add to the healthy smart growth of Detroit. The group firmly believes that true "development" must adapt to, not work against, its environment. Real growth is sustainable: it doesn't bulldozer rich farmlands, pastures, and decimate ecosystems. Presently a social and demographic shift is occurring that is revolutionizing the American Dream. People throughout the nation, as well as the globe, are embracing downtown regions. It is an inward migration that encompasses a longing for culture, diversity of opportunity, and community that only the mixed-use dense social web of cities can provide. We are turning away from the "growth" patterns that leave seemingly endless sprawl in its wake. The era of desperately seeking more space while loosing a sense of place is over. These are exciting times, times of change, times of growth and renewed accountability.

The Detroitist Group is determined to change and grow responsibly - never overlooking all the people and natural ecosystems that make our progress possible.

The Location

The Elevator Building has access not only to the surrounding Downtown community, but also to the outdoors. It offers the best of both worlds with an urban setting and lifestyle accompanied by extensive outdoor and recreational opportunities. Tenants will have access to the Dequindre Cut Bikeway, which will run 100 feet from the west side of the building and northward through a reinvented, old, subterranean-rail spur. The line joins North America?s largest farm market, Eastern Market, to Tri-Centennial State Park and the River Walk. In addition, tenants can enjoy water sports with the ability to canoe, kayak, sail, or powerboat from the Tri-Centennial Marina. Weekly music entertainment is just a stone through away at the waterfront amphitheater, Chene Park, which attracts major performers of all genres. If running, walking or biking is your preference; there are 5-10 miles of River Walk and paths, which extend to and around Belle Isle. The Elevator Building is unparalleled in its ability to offer, low rent, onsite gated parking, true loft style spaces, incredible views, and a city environment coupled with countless opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast.

The Building

The Detroitist Group is offering spaces with minimum overhead costs for tenants. The spaces visibly bear out how the 100 + yr old building carries its weight with large single cut timber beams and thick brick walls. With ceilings ranging from 14 to 22 feet, and sound retardant walls, the units are blank canvases waiting to be customized to your needs.

We're re-purpsoing this building to save space in landfills and generate a lower carbon footprint than a new build. We are going the extra mile to be environmentally conscious by growing a green wall in the lobby sustained by gray water recapture, placing U.V. reflecting coatings on the roof, using recycled urban lumber and glass for the balcony and many other techniques.

Tenants have keyed access to a common kitchen area, showering facilities, and upper balcony. The glass-enclosed rooftop balcony comes with a stainless steel, natural gas grill, and can double as a conference area viewing the cityscape, marina, Dequinder Cut, Tri-centennial Park, and River Walk. Whether you are looking for a studio, retail, hobby, or office space, these affordable units will facilitate your entrepreneurial spirit.

Our mission is to provide our tenants with below market rent and quality, unique, functional, private spaces where creativity can flow and dollars are focused on your business.

We provide broadband connectivity, electricity and heating/cooling, the rest is up to your imagination.
